Read here for information about our Spay/Neuter, Lily's Fund, Purina Weight Circles, and Pet Adoption Fairs programs.

Spay/Neuter Programs

We offer two different Spay/Neuter programs to Davie County residents only with Financial Assistance; the discount only covers the cost of the surgery.

The first program is a Variable Co-Pay program, where the pet owner agrees to pay some amount toward the surgery.  The application can be printed from this website or picked up at local veterinarians' offices and the Mocksville library, or call and leave us a message and we will mail an application to you to fill out and mail back.

The other program is the Government Assistance program.  The surgery is free if you qualify and is open to Davie County residents only. Pet owners must qualify through the health department under chapter 108A of the NC General Statutes.  Qualifying programs are: Health Choice, Medicaid, Food Stamps, Foster Care/Adoption Assist., Work First, & Special Assistance. These applications can be picked up at Social Services and Storehouse for Jesus or printed from this website.

Applications must be filled out and sent into the Humane Society for approval.  If approved, a certified voucher will be sent back to you to take to the vet.

Your pet must be healthy and up to date on all their vaccinations before surgery is done.  This includes rabies and the distemper combination vaccines for dogs and cats.  Check with your veterinarian on your pet's vaccine history. Make an appointment to have your pet vaccinated if they have not had any shots.  This is very important for their health and well being.   The vouchers do not include any discounts on vaccines.

Lily's Fund
Lily's Fund was set up to underwrite medical care costs of animals taken into our foster care and found to have a treatable medical condition that must be addressed before the pet can be adopted. Such treatment can run fairly high, and the Humane Society cannot afford this type of care. Your donation to Lily's Fund, named in honor of a three year-old dalmatian abandoned at the shelter, taken into foster care, and found to have heartworms, helps to ensure that adoptable animals in Davie County get a deserving second chance. Go to the Donations page and make a secure online donation today.

Pet Adoption Fairs

Humane Society of Davie County is a partner with PetSmart in Winston-Salem in holding pet adoption fairs on a regular basis. Adoption fairs are conducted on the 2nd and 4th Saturday of each month at the PetSmart store in Winston-Salem, from 11am to about 4pm. Both dogs and cats are available for adoption. We urgently need volunteers to staff the adoption fairs. Please call us at 751-5214 if you can help.

Purina Weight Circles

The Humane Society participates in a program through Purina that helps to cover vet bills and buy pet food. Simply clip the weight circles off of the sides of Purina-brand pet foods and treats, and mail them to us. We submit the circles to Purina for reimbursement on vet bills or vouchers for food.
